In 1962, twenty-two-year-old Jeanne Dougherty (Byrne) ’60, reviewed her patient charts in the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Research Unit. Accurate record-keeping was essential, as this was the first federally-supported unit in the country to study metabolic disorders in children. Byrne was promoted to head nurse just months before this photo was taken.
